Contactless smart cards cater to many applications encompassed by contact smart cards, but allows faster and more convenient transactions by eliminating the need for contact between the card and the reader. The demand and acceptance for this type of card is rapidly growing, with major deployments worldwide in applications such as micro-payment, physical and logical access control, government and corporate IDs, and automatic fare collection.

Contactless transactions are not as secure as contact transactions (due to transmission of data over the air), that is why contact cards – such as ACOS – are preferred in electronic security applications. Nevertheless, you can also order other contactless cards from HID for use in your contactless system implementations such as the Variants: Classic, Plus, Ultralight, Ultralight C, DESFire and DESFire EV1.
